Question about serving Fire/EMS in a neighboring County.

Background: I am applying for EMS on October 1. After graduating from Fire Academy in March, there is the opportunity to serve as firefighter in a volunteer capacity (until graduating from Fire Two in June, at which time I will be eligible to re-apply for fulltime, paid firefighter in same County.) The Tower has come up several times in readings, but as the only "negative" card, surrounded by positive ones; and, here, we have the same phenomenon when asking for clarification for "Tower as Outcome".

I still haven't done this reading. It's almost as if I am afraid of what I might find as I look more closely at the cards.

The crossing of The Tower with The Ten of Pentacles makes it look financial, which it probably is. I know that I will be working more hours for the same or probably less pay. The Tower may be as simple as feeling the financial pinch. I am not worried about this aspect. The Queen of Cups as outcome shows me that regardless of the level of pay, I will be happier doing this rather than my current situation, where the physical and emotional toll seems to weigh heavier and heavier each year. (I am a grade school teacher currently.)

Ten of Pentacles could also be the foundation from the education received during Fire Academy as The Tower resembles the actual fire tower used in training; the Queen of Cups, emotional satisfaction from completing my coursework.

Hoping for the best, we have The Six of Pentacles in position #6. There is another 6 in the Fears position, The Six of Swords. Interestingly, these contrast. There is a feeling of "hoping for the best ) financially while expecting the worst." Adding "The Wish" card from Crowns You & Could Come Into Being, The Nine of Cups, warms me to be careful what I ask for. particularly because it is succeeded by The Moon card, portending the mysterious, the unknown and the alluring in This Lies Before Me. There is an element of danger that appeals to me, as this job is not without its dangers, of course. There is a level of excitement with this card.

Outside Opinion is fairly strong with The Four of Pentacles. I have both a strong professional basis and also personal recommendations for this job. I am firm grounding when applications start going across desks. This makes me relax a little. It also plays in with the "be careful what you ask for" situation with this reading because now it feels like "the job will be yours if you want it" and "friends in high places" are strong indicators here.

The Ten of Wands & The Three of Wands both in the past positions indicate a firm grounding from which to apply. I have worked hard to get where I am today and have established myself as a reliable and recognizable person in the field already.

Overall, I believe The Tower indicates a major shift in lifestyle and career change, and an abrupt one at that. I was thinking this shift would be gradual. Looking at past tarot readings, it has only been two years since I even entertained the thought of switching careers with the timeline of 5 to 7 years, and here it is happening withing the course of less than two. From this perspective it is certainly a "Tower" moment in many respects.

New Job Opportunity

This new career thing is moving way fast. My buddy agrees that it is time to move. I should apply for part time in a county south of here, where he knows the Chief and the Marshal personally. I could get in part time request network to get a foot-in-the-door, to be promoted from EMT to EMT/firefighter after finishing Fire One in March. (This small county has separate EMS/Fire departments; however, they have a volunteer corps of firefighters who work in this capacity while on duty, i.e. carry "junk in the trunk" on the ambulance, in case of a fire, while providing EMS services at the same time. I'd still be a firefighter and wear the firefighter uniform though. It is a necessary step in being hired on fulltime paramedic/firefighter eventually).

This reading isn't about "getting hired"; it presumes employment.] It may simply mean that I am in for more of a lifestyle change, and more quickly paced, than I anticipated. But at any rate, it's not an Outcome card I would prefer to see. But at the same time, as a budding firefighter, it exciting! Important Date Approaching

September 27th is an important day approaching. It is the date of my anniversary of meeting my partner. It is also the day I go off probation at work. It is also the date of my first psychiatrist appointment. The last one I didn't set for myself (actually, I didn't set any of these for myself, not the least this one), it just so happens that this is the first date the doctor had available to see new patients.

Interestingly, there are aspects galore in my chart in three areas: Venus, Ascendant, and Chiron. Coincidence? I think not!

Name Change

I'm sick of it. I hate my last name, have no use for it, want to have it legally changed.

2. Immediate reaction: 5 of Pentacles. Mercury in Taurus. This one gives me a slight feeling of nausea in the pit of my stomach. It is the sickness card. The reason I want to change it stems from many issues, the least of which certainly isn't the feeling of abandonment on my father's part. Parts equal, this is of the whole. Let's just say that.

3. Crosses me for good or ill: 2 of Pentacles. Jupiter in Capricorn. Change is good. The outcome (Devil) is bad, isn't it? There is a warning here not to get caught up in the material aspect of the name. Changing it isn't going to magically make all these issues disappear. This will be a piece of the overall puzzle that will help.

4. Wish card: VI. The Lovers. The decision has pretty much been made. I am going to do it. It's a matter of follow through. I think this is a process of my becoming a person on my own and of my own. Not being inextricably linked with my family or my family name. There is a lot of hurt there and this will help.

5. Root of the Situation: Ace of Wands. This is a powerful card to have in this position. I think that legally this will impact my life significantly in a way that I can't possibly foresee at the moment. It is the beginning of an arduous task, challenging but rewarding in the end.

The final stop and the uppermost Trump. It is taking my "insolence" as far as I can go—losing my family name. I have reasons, valid ones, and legitimate concerns known only to my father and me, and two other people (and perhaps another childhood friend or two).

I have two of these today: Moon square Mars and Mars conjunct Mercury. The former deals with personality conflicting with emotions and the latter, emotions with communcation. As I map my future career and job-changing activities, it is becoming more and more difficult as too many options present themselves. The impulse is to try and make as much money as possible while attending school, which would amount to working two full-time jobs. The alternative route would be to take it easy and work one job while going to school. It may seem a bit far off to decide such a thing, but as most know applying for a school should begin the year prior to the school starting, not the last minute; so plans have to be made.

This represents the "new me" as I begin to see myself as a Gemini more and more in my mature age. This card is apropos for ambulance work, as well. I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

The plan was to "job share" next school year teaching for 2013-2014 starting in January while I go to paramedic school. The schedule is screwy, on "C" shift (no weekends): Monday & Thursday week one; Wednesday only week two; Tuesday & Friday week three; repeat the cycle. This is for firefighers, who can be scheduled on "A" or "B" shifts to get certified. This is at "my" school and it is the most affordable and most highly reputable school. I went to EMT there and will be doing Fire there, too. Other schools are close to $10,000 and this one is only $4500. Total. You can do the math.

Anyway, problem is it starts in January. To "job share"; that is, go to a .6 teaching position and a cut-in-salary; I would need to find someone at the beginning of the school year, August, next year, not in the middle of the school year, January, when Para actually starts. I could make just as much if not more (overtime, etc.) EMTing full-time with current ambulance company on "A" and/or "B" shift with a lot less stress.

.6 teaching and doing part-time with ambulance company is not feasible because I am not guaranteed any amount of hours as a pt employee with ambulance; part-timers only supplement the schedule on an as-needed basis. If I were full-time they would guarantee at least 36 hours a week and I would work as much as I make myself available. So we're talking over-time, and lots of it. This is a good thing.

I could go .6 with teaching and schedule myself full-time with ambulance on "C" days, but then once Para starts I would not be able to teach .6, work full-time, and go to Para (which lasts an entire year) because I think that would just about kill me. And, not only would I have to find someone to job share with me for one year but for two years, with them at .4 hours. This just isn't realistic at all.

So, looks like this is going to be my tenth and final year in the classroom! I'm so excited I just about can't contain myself! As soon as my probation is over (September 27th*) I am going to apply for full-time EMT at ambulance company beginning June 8, 2012!

This one seems to have occurred yesterday. I am trying to wing a meeting tomorrow with a friend that I am not sure is going to happen or if it's going to go well. The discussion with my partner leading up to this arrangement led to an argument about my being allowed freedom in my relationship to do the things I need to do; and we've had this discussion before but apparently to no avail or benefit. We have worked things out but it was definitely a Venus-square-Mars moment.

I have a hard aspect (an opposition) between Mars and Venus in my natal chart, so this energy is no stranger to me. Both are comfortable in their respective houses natally, Venus in Taurus and Mars in Scorpio; and, for this reason whenever a similar aspect happens in transit, it makes its affect all the more intense.

Getting Reinstated.

Earlier I did a Thoth reading on getting a lawyer to help with my discharge. Reinstatement is not off the table. The case is shocking to a military lawyer, that it went as far as it did, that those involved acted as deplorably and as dishonorably as they did and let a buck private (me) take the fall for something he simply had nothing to do with.

This reading is Celtic Cross with no particular question, no reversals; just "Marine Corps" reinstatement outcome:

I am going to read backwards, that is, starting with the Outcome card, the tenth position, first.

"Outcome" shows the 9 of Cups, which is the wish fulfilled card. This is something that I want. Clear enough. May be a bit of "be careful what you ask for" also, with the "Fears" position, Queen of Swords. This is one military mama here. This reinstatement will come with a great deal of responsibility. Perhaps a back-promotion of a few ranks is in order? I get the feeling that this may be the case in the next two cards.

"Outside opinion", 3 of Wands, or Strength; this is my time. Those in control of the situation note leadership and tenacity as a quality one-in-the-same. This transit started yesterday at around -1°16s (an arcsecond is ¹⁄_3,600 of a degree). At work I had to make the difficult decision to report inappropriate behavior that was creating a hostile work environment. (The report was made Thursday, the day before this transit occurred, at -3°01s, by the way.) In this line of work, there is much playful banter that goes around, most of it offensive, which I don't mind; but this particular person was vitriolic and anti-gay directly and in particular. He was not an equal opportunity offender. This was not one comment, it was three in less than an hour, and these are only the comments I actually heard. And, it was the first half of the first day of work. Not a way to start out, and certainly not an attitude one should have when dealing with patients. How would the quality of care be affected by someone who perceives his patients to be different from him, on any level? What about the sick person's loved ones? Would they be treated any differently? Probably. So my first duty as a health care provider at this company was to point out that this person was saying inappropriate things and creating an environment non-conducive to highest level care for patients or to the learning environment for fellow employees. It certainly didn't take long for the other guys in orientation to figure out who had reported this. Mercury square Midheaven = gossip about you. Got it. Duly noted.

I am here to save lives and be a patient advocate. I expect others to do the same for any patient regardless of age, race, religion, gender, sex or sexual orientation. I pointed this out to management when I reported that my concern was how this person's patients be received and treated, with him having this kind of attitude.

The guy was fired the next day. I am sure that the gossip will continue for the next few days. This person knew a few people in the company, but "low-level" employees; so as far as my being worried, with the high turnaround in this company, I am not. Also, I don't resume training for over another two weeks. It will have cooled since then.

At least the company doesn't have to worry about being sued because this asshole is prejudiced against gays and Lesbians. My interest is more vested than just the average low-level employee. I know people and come highly recommended. It is possible that the higher-ups expect more from me and perhaps that I will be climbing the corporate ladder over the next few years. And this is part of becoming and being a leader. I am not in this job to make friends. I am here to make a difference, both in my life and in others. It is suitable that my first act as an employee was to point out this potential for damage to the company's reputation and to suggest a remedy for the situation. And that's exactly what I did.

The retired manager of this company is best friends with the owners. She has been friends with my stepmother for years and as such has watched me grow from boy to man. I come highly recommended for the position. This is a fitting card for this position. It corresponds to the 6 of hearts in the standard playing card deck, whose meaning carries "pleasurable path" and "friendly sojourn".

2. Present. 5 of Cups, Mars in Scorpio. Sexuality. Fulfillment of desires. Abandonment of emotional satisfaction. This is a hollow victory. I do have a healthier and more optimistic outlook on the "new job" thing. I am to report on Thursday as long as I don't hear back from them. I haven't, so definitely a case of "no news is good news"! I was the oldest applicant and the highest scorer on the physical fitness test but my meds screwed up the drug screener. I thought they might, so I brought my prescriptions with me. The drug test guy made copies of them. That was last Tuesday. I am sure that if/when they did a more sophisticated urinalysis the results would have come back by now; seeing how that was over a week ago; so I should be in the clear. Transiting Moon sextile Sun seems to be pointing in that direction. This one is -0°36a, almost within half-a-degree, so it's pretty close. This can add to that aggravating feeling of anticipation along the domestic and business fronts, as the angle is not exact. I prefer arcseconds over arcminutes for this reason; but this is virtually the only aspect going on in my natal chart with transits.

[There is Moon square Moon in there, but that is practically all domestic and female, neither of which apply to me; and also this aspect would be calculated at over a degree {1°08a}, a period during which I hardly ever pay attention unless there are no other aspects in my chart.]
